РІДНЕ connects viewers to Ukraine's wartime reality through immersive audiovisual walks, pairing Ukrainian locations with soundscapes created by artists personally connected to each site. Initiated by Standard Deviation and Remote Control, this ongoing series transforms war coverage from abstract news into embodied, emotional experience.

The Concept

РІДНЕ [Ukrainian for 'native' or 'dear'] creates a sensory bridge to Ukraine's war reality, countering media fatigue and information overload. While short-form newsfeeds and frontline reporting remain vital, they often fail to sustain emotional engagement as the conflict continues. Through immersive audiovisual walks scored by Ukrainian artists directly affected by the locations shown, РІДНЕ offers viewers a more visceral, embodied understanding of daily life during wartime. This approach aligns with Standard Deviation's mission to amplify Ukrainian voices and experiences while generating direct support for affected communities through the k41community.fund.

The Approach

РІДНЕ transcends traditional war documentation through sensory immersion, pairing POV footage with original soundscapes created by Ukrainian artists personally connected to each location. By combining intimate visual journeys with emotional sonic narratives, the project transforms abstract news into embodied experience. This dual-layered approach invites viewers to connect with Ukraine's wartime reality through the body and senses rather than just intellect, creating a deeper understanding of the ongoing conflict's human dimension. From Kyiv's haunting blackouts to border crossings that echo displacement stories, each piece serves as both artistic expression and cultural testimony.

Through РІДНЕ, Ukrainian artists have been able to document and process their evolving relationship with places transformed by war, while international audiences gain a visceral understanding beyond news headlines. All proceeds support Ukrainian artists and communities through the k41community.fund
